Welcome to the web page of the Indiana Horse Racing and Breeding Coalition. The Coalition represents the combined interests of the state's four horse racing breed associations, its two pari-mutuel race tracks and the hopes and livelihoods of tens of thousands of Hoosiers who make their living in and around the Indiana horse industry.
The horse industry has a long and proud tradition in Indiana, a tradition that reaches every one of the state's 92 counties. But beyond its tradition, the industry provides $1.3 billion of annual economic impact, and that impact is a significant economic driver throughout the state.
The Indiana agricultural equine industry supports local economies through commerce with area horse owners, breeders, trainers, drivers,
grooms, farmers, veterinarians, feed manufacturers, feed storeowners, farriers, tack and harness shop owners, truck and trailer dealers,
builders, bankers and a variety of other businesses. We provide significant state and local jobs, economic activity, tourism, and state
and local tax revenues.
Racing, the largest and most visible component of the horse industry, has reached a critical juncture in its development. Though the industry is only 13 years old in the state, Indiana horse racing competes on a regional and national basis with states that have been in the business for more than 100 years. Compounding the challenge, Indiana competes with states that have enacted or are considering alternative gaming at their tracks as a means of generating additional racing income and state revenue.
The Indiana Horse Racing and Breeding Coalition and its friends and supporters seek to grow the horse racing and breeding segment of the horse
industry and to allow the industry to become self-supporting through alternative gaming at pari-mutuel facilities in the state. This web site
is meant to serve as an educational tool in our effort to inform Hoosiers about this issue and its importance to the industry.
